Where to Park Once and Eat Well

Visitors tend to eat wherever they’re staying. That’s how you end up having the same meal four times. These are the pockets where a single parking space puts a dozen kitchens in walking distance — ranked by how much choice you actually get, not by which has the fanciest room.

1. Old Town Bluffton 13 spots — Worth the bridge. okàn ★, FARM Bluffton ★, Nectar’s original, Joelle, Craft Kitchen and Squat ‘N’ Gobble ★ inside a few walkable blocks. The highest concentration of serious cooking in the region, and nothing about it feels like a resort.
2. Coligny Plaza 24 spots — The most options anywhere, full stop. The SandBar ★, Stu’s ★, Gringo’s ★, Bad Biscuit ★, Frosty Frog ★, The Ice Cream Cone ★, Capri ★ and It’s Greek to Me ★ — plus Big Bamboo, FISH, Skillets and a dozen more. Walk from the beach, decide when you get there.
3. New Orleans Road 14 spots — The island’s grown-up dining road, and visitors drive past it. Charlie’s L’Etoile Verte, Michael Anthony’s, Crane’s, Nunzio, Hinoki. Nowhere near the beach, which is exactly why it stays good.
4. Pope Avenue 10 spots — Sage Room, The Sea Shack, Stellini, Captain Woody’s ★, The Bank ★, Watusi. Range from a shack with a line to a proper night out, in four blocks.
5. Shelter Cove Towne Centre 9 spots — Chophouse 119, Jane, Poseidon ★, Tio’s, Giuseppi’s ★. Newest of the big centers and the easiest parking on the island.
6. Village at Wexford 9 spots — Ombra, The Jazz Corner, British Open Pub, Masala Mantra, Java Burrito ★. The most varied nine restaurants in one place — Italian, Indian, Brazilian, live jazz.
7. Main Street Village 11 spots — Mangiamo’s ★, Mixx on Main ★, Cactus Street ★, The Milkshake Factory ★, Frankie Bones, WiseGuys, Ruan Thai. Where the north end actually eats.
8. Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina 7 spots — ELA’s, Bistro 17, Scott’s Fish Market, San Miguel’s, Top Dawg ★. Boats out the window, sunset over the water, and a kids’ room at Top Dawg.
9. Port Royal Plaza 9 spots — The most surprising list here: Korean barbecue, ramen, sushi, a Paris Baguette, plus Street Meet ★, Sundown Saloon ★ and Plantation Cafe ★. An unremarkable strip mall doing food nobody expects.
10. Park Plaza 8 spots — Just outside the Sea Pines gate. One Hot Mama’s ★, CharBar, Holy Tequila! ★, Reilley’s, Mellow Mushroom. Casual, quick, and it saves you the gate fee.
11. North Sound View (Squire Pope) 6 spots — Hudson’s ★, Skull Creek Boathouse ★, Skull Creek Dockside, Benny’s, Sunset Grille. Four waterfront kitchens on one road, and the best sunsets on the island.
12. Harbour Town 6 spots — CQ’s, The Quarterdeck, Crazy Crab, the Bakery. You’re paying partly for the lighthouse and the harbor, and on the right evening that’s a fair trade.
13. Fresh Market Center 5 spots — Small but punching up: Lulu Kitchen, Gruby’s ★, Madre, Duck Donuts.
14. South Island Square 4 spots — Under the bar on count, over it on quality — Nectar ★, Coastal Capri, Carlito’s ★, Island Bagel ★. Breakfast through late dinner in one lot.
15. Palmetto Bay Marina 4 spots — Breakfast at Sunrise Cafe ★, dinner at Black Marlin ★, seafood at Carolina Crab Company. The same docks where Captain Woody sold shrimp off a trawler in 1982.
